Yes Art that was the first thing I noticed too. Have to wonder if after yet another 30+ years if it is still there.

I'll take gaudy any day, over Pennsylvania, PC, N&W NS, and their black and white. Forgive me, my hatred of B&W. I grew up on the MEC, and I am quite partial to green and gold (yellow) Be it MEC, The Rutland, CV, the Lamoille Valley. Yup, love me some yellow on my engines.

I mande many visits to Clifton Forge over the years working in the area. The place seemed to have retained much of the steam era vibe as late as the 1990s. Not only were the watering plugs in place on both ends of the ex-C&O Amtrak station but also the coaling tower on west end of the massive yard complex . Alas, these are now gone. What does remain is a proud community of mostly working class peoples nestled in the narrow hills north of town; one that owes it existence to t the C&O railway division point, steam engine terminal, and car shops.

Re: "some would say gaudy", I think it might be a bit more accurate to describe it as, unashamed.
