I rode those cars in the '70's. I think they had electric heating and a/c. If I'm correct, how did those F's supply juice for those services?

At the rear of the F7 you'll see an exhaust muffler. The unit was probably equipped with a separate HEP power plant at the rear to provide electric for A/C and lights in the coaches.
