If I was there on that Winter day...I would have made the climb too. Since you cannot pay to visit the 'Curve' via the normal visitor area because they limit visits during certain times of the year, you did what any railfan would have done! Having been to this side of the 'Curve' myself, I'm sure the snow made for a few 'tricky' spots when you navigated to this railfan spot. Nice photo and thanks for sharing your efforts from mile marker 242 (aka Horseshoe Curve)!
