HRRC accesses the Specialty Minerals plant on a tiny snippet of the old Central New England East-West mainline. In the distant past, the line connected Hartford with the Poughkeepsie Bridge, crossing the Berkshire Division mainline on the diamond at Canaan Union Station. Most of the CNE mainline in this area was abandoned in the 1930s, though a short stretch survives near Hartford.
