What is extended up from the top of the cab? I'm seeing it in other photos of this locomotive.

The device on the top of the cab is an ice breaker to break icicles off tunnels and overpasses so that they don't strike cars farther back on the train (auto-racks and double stacks for example)

I believe the extension above the cab is to clear cycles.
