Wonderful photo Emily - sad to see another piece of history "dying" from the takeover of modern technology. I do wonder what Amtrak, or whoever has the final say over the Solari Board disposition, will do with this now that they've removed it? I hope they preserve it in a museum or place it on display somewhere! It's a piece of nostalgia and history that needs to be preserved and if placed in a museum or public display - it should be interactive for the public to see how it works or worked!

Dana, Amtrak is retaining ownership of the board, but it will be out on loan to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg for the time being. After the redevelopment of 30th Street Station, it is possible that the board will be returned and displayed in some capacity in the station. Whether it will ever work again, I don't know - as it was, the board was being run under Windows 98, and required two different computers to relay a message, with a delay time in some instances of several minutes.
