I'm pretty sure that that grade is 5% and not .5%.

I thought since the % is on the 5 key, Ben meant 5.5% but the numbers quoted equal 3.7%. 5.5% seemed steep so I looked at various sections on the Google Earths and calculated between 2.7 and 2.9%. Maybe the line out of Clifton towards Lordsburg has steeper sections but didn't check. On Google it looks like the pictured train will climb a little over 400ft in 3.7 miles to get to the first "yard". The end of track is less than 100 feet above that. Either way, it looks steep and is great photo. Thanks for posting it.
