As a person who rode in an open doored vestibule many times, I have to agree. It is a classic part of railroading. I miss it very much.

Well, it would be interesting to know what precipitated this change. Can Amtrak offer any statistics to show a need for this ??

I could spend hours in the vestibule. Given that this has been discouraged for a long time, I stopped patronizing Amtrak and like-minded entities. The proclivity toward hemming people up in controlled groups like a dog pound is not to my liking and it's a shame one cannot enjoy the soothing rhythm of steel wheel on rails as once was ordinary freedom. I'll stick to the motorcycle for fresh air and leave Amtrak to stew in its nanny state juices.

One of the Reasons to ride a PV. Just another excuse to get rid of PV's altogether.

That is stupid. Amtrak can set standards for a train's mechanical setup, but to tell people what to do concerning doors and windows, that is too far. I wonder if freight trains will still let people keep these windows open.
