This picture is one reason I love driving my truck out West. I have seen the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and each and every one of them is different day to day. I absolutely could not stand it if I were to be in an office job and miss scenes like this day after day. Alda is a small town off U.S. Highway 30 with the Union Pacific having parallel tracks in town. The trains fly through Alda most of the time. Union Pacific generally follows U.S. 30 for several hundreds of miles in Nebraska. I drive U.S. 30 rather than Interstate 80 just so that I can watch the trains. At times, I will pace a locomotive and we have a horn blowing contest every now and again. My Mack truck versus Union Pacific locomotives. It is fun but they win every time but I don't care. I believe the engineer or conductor has fun as well as he always waves afterwards. One place that I really enjoy watching the trains go through town at a much slower pace is Ogallala, Nebraska especially on the west end of town. If one were to follow the tracks in the picture, they would be going through Ogallala eventually.
