Wouldn't that be the second "phase" of U30C construction? C&O's dozen or so U30C's came in two body styles, with 3300-3303 not having those fairings but the others, 3304-3312 did have them. Someone observed, a long time ago, that model changes at GE didn't always result in carbody changes. No matter what, they always looked and sounded impressive.

U30B's went thru a similar phase change. The Milwaukee Road bought about 10 of them. Numbers 5600-5604 looked like late U28B's and 5605-5609 had the same body style as the above unit. Milwaukee's U30C's, however, exhibited the latest body style where the fairing was not added and the small vents in the radiator section were positioned differently. I was really disappointed when a certain model train company missed this particular detail in their production of the U30B lettered in CB&Q. The Q had this particular body style of their U30B and not the later version that was produced. I believe this SOO unit body style of the U30 line was manufactured somewhere around 1968.

It’s about time for a really good U30C model again, as well as a n H-12-44. SOO had those too.
