That one is a C40-8.

It's designated on the cab as a C39-8E.

If that is NS 8688, that is the last C39-8E built. My understanding was that all of them were scrapped. It's pretty obvious that hasn't turned a wheel in a while, don't know why it hasn't been cut up yet.

You're right, I forgot about there being any C-39's ("E" for "Enhanced") with the "DASH-8" "production style" cab and carbodies. All of 25 of 'em, and all for NS.
