I rode behind U-boats (or in front of them) from 1972 to 1980 on the Montclair branch when I worked in NYC. I moved to Houston in 1996 and went to work for Industrial Maritime Carriers (Intermarine) in 2001. We carried used locos to Brazil over the years, many in BN green. I was driving through our terminal on July 10, 2007 when I saw 5 U-boats lined up for export. They were mostly in gray paint with NREX reporting marks. But something looked familiar, so I pulled over to take a closer look. 2 of the units were indeed NJ Transit U-boats. 4167 (nee 3367 above) and 4180. To meet up with them 17 years after i stopped commuting was a real treat.
