Nice photo, Evan, but as a retired NS signal maintainer, I feel obligated to let you know that this is not a "searchlight" signal as you have described it. A true searchlight signal has a mechanism inside that allows it to show multiple colors, such as red, yellow, green and sometimes lunar. Your photo shows a single-color light unit (probably Safetran or equivalent) that never changes color and is constantly lit at yellow (it only has a yellow lens). The rectangular plate with the arrowed notches tells the engineer that this a distant signal, and that he/she needs to be prepared to stop at the next signal ahead. This signal conveys no other information that this. Thanks for sharing your photo; you did a fine job of capturing the signal and evening sky!
