Looks unlike any GP40 I've ever seen.

I did some research before posting and this unit was called a GP40-3 by many other people, so I assumed it was the correct locomotive. Obviously under a special cab.

Bill, I wasn't doubting you. It's so different & UNIQUE that it stands out. I love this photo. I do have one question: when the ties are picked up, how do they move to the forward cars? Or does the "tractor" move back and forth?

The tractor moves on rails on the top of the cars. In this case, the last two or three cars were empty for picking up debris and the forward cars had large rock they could deposit trackside.
