The train is coming out of the base tunnel (GBT). The operating concept envisages that a fairly large proportion of the freight trains travelling south will pass through Biasca in order to allow a passenger train travelling behind at around twice the speed to overtake via the Biasca bypass. As is well known, there is no possibility to overtake in the 57 km long tunnel.
