Hampton Bays has been "ND" since the days of manned telegraph operators. It stood for the last two letters of "Good GrouND", the former name of the village before it became Hampton Bays in the 1920s. I have to give the LIRR credit for doing more track and signal work at this location in the past 5 years than they did in the preceeding 50 years.
