Great photo! I've never understood the purpose of the emergency light. Seems like it wouldn't be used very often.

No wonder that it made an abrupt stop: look at the sign written on the road!

This is the first picture I've ever seen where the emergency red light is illuminated! When an SP locomotive would go into emergency, the red light will turn on and act as a red signal for any other trains to see. The SP had the coolest light package!
