There appears to be 4 ALCO switchers behind the road power. Do you know the story with those?

Look at the consist. There are 3 Alco switchers in there too. Probably dead and heading for scrap.

Any idea what the story is with the 4 Alcos in the train with a freight car in between each?

Are those 4 switchers I see just behind the Power ?

Those were almost certainly retired locomotives on their way to the scrap yard. At the time PC was replacing old Alcos in yard service in New England with new SW1500s.
