All of the electric locomotives operating on the NYC had to get their source of power from somewhere. Thanks for sharing this often over looked and forgotten piece of railroad history.

The redevelopment is GREAT news ! I have many times payed particular attention to this building while riding by and hoped that domeone would rehabiliate it rather than demolishing this grand structure. I would assume that the remaining pilings on the downriver side of the structure were for coal barges, as it seemed there was no feasible way to get coal to the facility directly by rail.
