What's up with the gauntlet on the right, or is it just a weird switch for a cross-over because of the road crossing?

Both tracks here are gauntlet tracks so freights can avoid hitting the commuter platforms here

The gantlet tracks allow freight trains to clear the high-level platforms at Hammond. There is also a similar arrangement at Hegewisch.
