I could be wrong, but I don't ever remember seeing any Milwaukee Road or Great Northern locomotives fading as bad at that second unit. And....I've often observed much better looking paint on BNSF locomotives in scrap lines. PR aside, its apparent in railroading that often mechanics will trump cosmetics. Function is number one and this photo does a good job of displaying that gritty reality.
