Don't forget that SP classified this locomotive as one of its two U25BE's when rebuilt in Sacramento Shops in 1975 and 1976 with numerous mechanical and electrical upgrades. SP's U25B's were reaching the end of their service lives and the decision was made to rebuilt two to test the feasibility of upgrading the entire fleet. SP had many rebuilding successes over the years including GP9's, SD 7/9's, SW 1200's and many SD40 and 45-2's. The GE's worked well enough but no more went through the program. This unit was one of three with the bicentennial paint schemes and spent its remaining years in shuttle service around the LA Basin.
