This is part of an ambitious, but often delayed, plans for passenger trains from Ann Arbor to Traverse city, and there's even talk about Lansing to Detroit, but it keeps running into major road blocks. It's really sad that it's not going.
Michigan could really use reliable passenger trains between say Grand Rapids, through East Lansing, Lansing, and Detroit with stations between. I-96, the expressway between these cities, can be packed and treacherous. A passenger line between them would be a boon.
