It doesn't seem like that long ago when these tracks held lines of stored and retired GP9's.

Lived in a couple locations in Virginia in 1970s and 1980s and it seemed like those N&W GP9s were everywhere. Of course there was newer power in use but it sure seemed like NW didn't let any train out unless it had at least one GP9 on it. Or at least that is what my memory believes that decade was like.
