And what a sad day that was. A highlight of visiting my dad's cousin in Maple Valley was being able to look down into the yard at Auburn from the Hwy 18 overpass and see all the covered wagons and early high hood GP's by the roundhouse. After 1980, not only did the covered wagons disappear but so did the roundhouse and engine house. Then the yard even became just a storage facility and they shuttered the Stampede Line until BNSF needed it again in the late 1990's.
