Alaska Railroad used these for passenger cars for years and the ride is really sweet compared to most passenger cars of the era.

These typically had better suspension than your average passenger cars. If you think about it, it makes sense. You wouldn't want a rough ride tossing injured soldiers around.

I wish they’d learn that on emergency ambulances. I did 75+ miles in one and felt every bump, magnified by two it seemed.

Awesome photo of a nice piece of Military Rail Equipment. Does anyone have any further information about this car and the progress of the restoration? I'd like to know and see photos of it once it's restoration is complete.

This is a Korean era car, built 1953 by the St. Louis Car Company. It was the last ambulance car built for the Army. Several of these went to Amtrak. This one has a completely original interior, just needs a cosmetic restoration.

Very nice shot and information. I just shot this one in the Columbia, SC NS yard today. Not sure where it may be going

Actually the ones used by Alaska Railroad were WWII-era cars if I recall correctly. They had six axles and the ride was very gentle. I sure that was a comfort to the wounded. IMHO all passenger cars ride better with good three axle trucks.
