I hope the electric was turned off. Hats off to all the railroad workers out there trying to keep the trains on time. You guys are the unsung heroes of the united states.

What are the "stop arms"?

The power was very much on! This was all done under traffic. The stop arms, also called "trip arms" are part of the automatic train stop system for the subway. In short, when the signal turns red the stop arms raises, and if a train passes the red signal the stop arm hits the "trip cock" on the train, activating the emergency brakes. It's important to keep the stop arms clear of snow or other debris that might prevent them from lowering fully and cause them to trip trains on favorable signals.
