In case anyone is wondering why they've never been taken down, it's rather simple. There are over 8 miles of them and when they tried to remove them they found that they were so well built with big foundations, that it would be too much trouble to remove them. It's a very busy line, so closing it to remove the catenary arches wouldn't be feasible.
