Just a bit of a correction. The track between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek is operated by the state. The State of Michigan bought it about a decade ago when NS decided that it just wasn't worth the cost to keep the track up to Amtrak standards. They never threatened to abandon it, but wanted Amtrak to pick up more. The state stepped in and purchased the track between Kalamazoo and Dearborn so Amtrak could keep up the 79MPH top speed. NS is still the freight operator, since there's more than enough demand that the state needs a railroad to operate it. I live on the CN Line not too far from BC.
