You got that right, Sid. The Corbin railyard is just a ghost town. It is nothing compared to what is was in past times. Coal hoppers everywhere in the yard along with others cars. Trains running up and down the KD Subdivision to Etowah, TN and back to Corbin, KY. My back property line abuts the CSX Right-Of-Way just above LaFollette, TN. My wife, before she passed away, and I used to watch the trains whenever I was home from my truck driving job just to relax and talk. We would sometimes walk the tracks back in the wilds just to see the scenery, wildlife and such. Sometimes while were walking we would hear a deep growling sound along with the screeching of steel wheels even before we actually saw the train. Then that grey and yellow machine and later on, blue and yellow, would appear pulling the grade or going downgrade with with the smell of burnt diesel fuel smoke filling the air. Those were the days! But, now, hardly nothing ever since "precision railroading" came about. I can sit in the backyard for hours before I see a train go by. The only thing I noticed is that trains are now much, much longer with DPU's scattered about the train here and there. Maybe, just maybe, it will all come back to a normal railroading scheme one day. That is why the railyard in Corbin appears to be abandoned and as Sid stated "practically a ghost town rail-wise". Thanks for sharing the L&N photo!
