Theni, a valley town on the foothills of Western Ghats in Tamilnadu state known for its trading of garlic, cotton, cardamom, grapes, bananas, mango and chilli. Once it had meter gauge connection to Madurai Jn starting from Bodinayakanur. After gauge conversion till Theni, recently two services were introduced between Theni and Madurai Jn. The route is very scenic with lots of hills and rock cutting. The total time of the journey is one hour and ten minutes and not electrified. Diesel traction lovers will love this short trip of 75 kms. Extension of the line till Bodinayakanur is going on. Hope it will be soon commissioned.
