This is one incredible photo. For one, it shows how cramped a steam engine's cab really is, and second, I'm sure that any surviving Baldwin employees would love to have a copy of this photo showing this engine still running strong 70 years and more after its construction!

Rather than describing it as cramped, let's advertise it as "economizing construction costs via the means of refraining from including unoccupied and thereby unnecessary volume."

That's a creative and interesting shot--well done. Now the engineer in my requests a similar shot taken with a ultrawide rectilinear lens, instead of a fisheye.

FSWood has a great point! Baldwin was indeed probably trying to save every possible penny as was C&O in those days. We can all agree that it's great news to see a large, live, steam engine working these days. Now if they could only get sister engine 1308 out of that park in Huntington, WV and back in steam, too!!
