Judging by http://trainfanz.com/en/series_info.aspx?Series=21&msg=368 the locomotive on the right is the DF21. What's the class of the similarly-painted one on the left? I can't quite read. Is it another variant of the DF21? The Vietnamese D19E, which seem to be a counterpart of the DF21 but from another builder, have two body styles similar to these.

Hi Triplex. Both of the locomotive in white and blue is DF21(Dongfeng21). DF21 was built by Sifang Works but D19E was built by Chinese Ziyang Works. Vietnam Railways bought D19E from Ziyang. DF21 and D19E use the same Caterpillar 3512B engine but different transmission system. In other words they are different locomotives with no relationship. That DF21 picture from http://trainfanz.com/ might be the paint used during its test run.

The part I'm interested in: What year are each of these locomotives? That is, when did the DF21 body style change?

I think the paint of df21 has changed since it was put into use.

I'm not talking about the paint, but the two types of cab design.

DF21 is always this shape

The one on the right has a sort of angular cab with a 'brow', same as DF21-0001 on the page I linked. The one on the left has a more streamlined cab. That's what I was trying to convey with the comparison to the two types of D19E.

They are actually the same shape. And the illusion may be caused by lens distortion.
