On November 1, 1984, one of the first of these was dropped in the water in Newport News, Virginia, in order to prevent the transport vessel from capsizing. No one was hurt, so someone at General Electric nicknamed this locomotive "Captain Nemo" after the character made famous by Jules Verne.
