I'm thinking that's 1987, not 1997. The siding (in the foreground) was welded rail by the 1990s, and MAIL 9 was generally not run from South Kearny from 1991 on (only on occasion; the MAIL 9 symbol was usually a Morrisville, PA origin starting about then, with MAIL 9/MAIL 3 traffic combined into a single train usually with the MAIL 3 symbol). Chance of westbound MAIL train power being all 4-axle AND all EMD by the late 1990s is also slim, the 6-axle invasion started long before 1997 and there was a good deal of GEs displacing the "old guard" GP40s/GP40-2s by then. Nice trip down memory lane.
