There were bigger, more powerful locomotives but when this thing was coupled to a six-axle slug I'd contend there was nothing much that looked bigger or more powerful, kinda like a C&O H-7.

High-nose C630 1135 is actually still with us - carefully restored and under roof at the VMT in Roanoke!

So good she was saved and amazing she was even there in this line of dead units as late as Sept. 1989. N&W had some long flat six axle slug units with FM trucks which makes me wonder: Was this C630 working as a slug in it's final days or was it delivered new with the FM trucks on it?

The last order was delivered with these trucks. The Alco trucks were notorious for knocking the track out of gauge on sharp curves. After reading Steinbrenner’s history of the company it’s a wonder to me they lasted as long as they did. But they sure were pretty.
