Boarded my first mainline train trip here at age 5 with Mom and Grandma in the 1960s- a "Grocer's Picnic Special" to Atlantic City. While waiting on the eastbound platform, a GG1-powered limited scared everyone by zooming by at a mile-a-minute with its Leslie A-200 blaring. Hundreds jammed the high-level platforms at Lancaster to board. At 30th Street, the G came off, and two PRSL boxy Baldwins pulled us to Atlantic City, where we took in the Steel Pier with its diving bell and Mom got me a green plastic Mr. Peanut bank. On the return trip, we ended up in a coach with rotting window sills. I'll never forget it!
