For a time in the mid-1950s, commuter trains often ran both with the older heavyweights and the new gallery cars in the consists--prior to the gallery cars being all converted (or later delivered) with HEP. There are also well-documented photographs of the earliest run of gallery cars operating in regular commuter service behind steam.

Nice shot Daniel. I think C&NW was the first railroad to use the push pull system. Fortunately I have been to the Illinois Railway Museum. This is probably the best RR museum in the US. Best regards.
