This is a classy and efficient design. The two wheel pilot truck puts more weight on the drivers. And, four wheels under the cab yields a better ride for the crew. Of note, Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway 2-8-8-4 Number 229, was preserved at Two Harbors, MN as of 1987.

There are currently three DM&IR yellowstones preserved. The 225 is in Proctor Mn. The 227 is at the museum in Duluth Mn., and the 229 is on display in Two Harbors Mn.
