This is a kind of shot that would be no less aesthetically impressive had it been staged or Photoshopped, but all the more impressive when captured as seen. Very nice! Interesting location for a siding on what appears to be a reverse S-curve. Does the NCDOT run opposite directions here? You'd expect the train with the headlights on to be on the opposite track.

Mitch, it's up to the dispatcher's (or likelier, autorouter) discretion here but typically trains in either direction can use the siding vs. the main. The train coming at me is on the siding while the other train is on the main.
