Train came from Ft. Lewis, WA, carrying 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment equipment. The unit is one of three squadrons (as of 2004) Army-wide enhanced to work with Stryker Brigade Combat Teams as Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition (RSTA) squadrons. Fort Wainwright, AK (4-14CAV) and Fort Lewis have deployed new Stryker Brigades. This was likely a training deployment.
"The Army's new forces must be agile, versatile and more rapidly deployable to meet an enemy who is adaptive as well as ruthless," Major General Robert W Mixon, Jr. one of the architect of the Army's transformation to smaller, more mobile fighting units. He took command of Fort Carson, CO, on Jan. 27, 2005.
The 4,400-soldiers of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team will transition to the Army's new "units of action."
