The railroad along this section of coast is never more than a few yeards from the sea. During southerly storms seals take refuge in the many tunnels, and have to be periodically ejected to let the trains through. Just north from here is a major seal colony. This is looking soth towards Kaikoura, which means Food from the Sea.
