They are compatible and were probably already built when the unit went in for a truck change. It is quicker to have trucks built ahead of time and staged rather than rebuild the trucks already under the engine.

I know they replaced a few others too. CSX 6028, an exB&O, also has M type trucks. On the other hand I've seen exL&N GP38-2s with 'B' type trucks which I'm pretty sure they didn't come with. Nice shot and good eye on the detail!

The old Type B trucks were probably replaced newer Type M's during a visit to the shop.
