Traversing remote Cascade Canyon at milepost 477, a Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge train follows the Animas River east (south) of Cascade, Colorado, on the afternoon of August 30, 2006.
Teft Spur was named for an early forest ranger, Guy Tefft. This was the location of a large sawmill that supplied the Silverton Branch with railroad ties in the 1890's
The Rio Grande's regular passenger train to Silverton has just crossed the Tefft Bridge and is now hugging the north back of the Animas River on this crystal clear fall day.
