A 2hr late #70 finally arrives into Brantford. The delay was caused by a broken rail near Chatham due to the severe winter storm the day before.

VIA engines 6441 and 6424 were the power into Jasper on train #1. They were set off here and replaced by VIA 6448 and 6444.
Running 52 minutes late, The Canadian arrives in Portage to pick up some passengers before leaving for points east.

The Canadian leaves Toronto for Vancouver. This was the last northbound passenger train on the CN Newmarket Subdivision through Barrie and Orllia, shortly before the through route was abandoned.
