Turbo Troubles
MBTA rebuilt 13 former GM&O F3's into "FP10's" for use on commuter rail service out of Boston.
In May 1980 I happened to look out of the window of my northbound Corridor express and saw all these GG1's. The GG1 entered service in 1935 and a few kept running until 1983. Amazing machines.
The year is 1979 and this old warhorse appears to have reached the end of its usefulness to Amtrak. It seemed fitting to me that the ghostly emblem of the once mighty PRR was still visible through... (more)
The amazing thing about the GG1's was that they were still pulling trains at 100 mph in 1979! They were designed in the era of steam and endured with grace into the nuclear age.
End of the line for this Trainmaster. It was literally sinking away.......
The T-6's had remarkable pulling/pushing power. N&W would string them together at Lambert's Point and turn them loose on heavy cuts of coal.
OK N&W fans, is this a late U28B or a U30B? I need a N&W roster ca 1980. Anyone got one I can have?
