The NRHS Convention train is about to start down the remarkable Saluda grade.
During the famous "triple the hill" the NS crew takes a break in famous Saluda. This operation ended in 2003, the rails now wait for a train that may or may not come.
Drifting down the hill at Melrose. Despite rumors over the years, trains have never returned making me glad I made the effort to shoot here.
After doubling the hill NS 2530 puts it's train together for the trip back to Ashville. Freight has been off the mountain since 2003 due to re routes. No one knows if they will return.
The last time N&W 611 would ever climb Saluda Grade. The announcement that the program would end was only had a few weeks before. I was so lucky to be here to capture this.
The 2nd to last steam excursion to ever descend Saluda Mountain. The very last trip would be in November of 1994.
