The 1973 Stock for Piccadilly Line was introduced in 1975, built by Metro-Cammell. The train is formed of two units, while each unit consists of 3 cars.

Developed from the prototype 1986 Stock, the 1992 Stock was built by BREL for Central Line and Waterloo & City Line. It will be replaced by New Tube for London between 2024 and 2033.

D 78 is the last of the older sub surface stock on the London Underground, now retired. Some of these were remade into DMU's. Now the new S stock operates on all sub surface routes of LUL.
