Coal loads are tied down in the Cass Lake Yard, next to a BNSF work train with CP GEVO's.

Just before I got clouded out for a closer shot, I zoomed out as far as my 300mm would let me to get a shot.

After a derailment on the super busy Staples Sub, the BNSF routed several Z-trains through the Lakes Sub and Grand Forks Sub. The H1 C44-9W looks so much better than the H2.
This DPU MAC easily shoves on the end of coal empties as they pass through a dig in the line near Spike Lake west of Cass Lake.
A couple of SD70ACe's are up front and a GEVO is in DPU on the rear as they wait in Cass Lake Yard for a crew to take them west.
The BNSF 9303 just arrived on the end of a coal empty.
Well, I'd have rather shot the EJE units but a clean SD70M-2 is a nice conselation prize.
After backing out on the main from MP&L, the train has reverse and is heading back to Cass Lake where they will park in the yard.
Hopefully soon that middle unit will look as nice as the other two as it was just donated by the CN to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. I thought for sure I was going to see a grade crossing ac... (more)
