An early October snow had just begun falling as #1702 charged out of Bryson City toward the Nantahala Gorge. It was bitter cold, but surely made for an impressive display of steam.

1702 rolls through the fields of Shelton Farms with the last Tuckasegee River excursion of the year.

1702 powers up the east side of Ferguson Hill with the last Tuckasegee River excursion of 2019.

GSMR #1702 makes a run for "Ferguson's Hill" between Dillsboro and Bryson City.

Two minutes into its journey GSMR 1702 crosses a river and begins the climb out of Bryson City.

Have departed town and just passed through the horse shoe curve leaving Bryson City, GSMR 1702 tackles the grade on its trip west.

A rather patriotic group of rafters float down the river as the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Nantahala excursion passes by.

GSMR 1702 slowly moves towards the turntable after uncoupling from its train.

GSMR 777 brings the consist for an excursion train to the Bryson City depot, which will be led by 1702.

With the turntable being man powered, they allow passengers to get involved & give them the chance to turn the engine themselves.

Putting on a good show cresting the Ferguson grade. 1702 bring's it's train into the outskirts of Bryson City. This is one of my favorite spot's to get the train for obvious reason's.

The fireman signals to the engineer on 1702 to reverse onto a cut of cabooses in the Bryson City yard while GP9 1755 awaits for another day on the Tuckasegee River.
